Edisi Menjahit - Pola & Nota Jahitan PJ Bottom @Seluar Tidur

Sewing is my passion. Walaupun saya claim ianya my passion, jangan expect jahitan tip top, kemas ala butik, or baju yang terletak cantik pada badan. InsyaAllah, one fine day in future. But for now, bertabah je lah dengan whatever level of quality he he.

Rabu lepas cuti. Ada appointment di Columbia Asia. This women ver 4.1 la katakan. I have this thing that is not supposed to be there. But since it doesn't bother me at all, Dr advised me to just leave it be. Alhamdulillah nothing calls for serious attention. But I have to go for follow-ups. Routinely. Appointment scheduled late morning so pagi tu sempat jahit PJ bottom for abang gebu kita, si Iman. Susah nak cari seluar kat kedai yang selesa untuk dia. So? Jahitlah kan. Tak perlu keluarkan duit beli kain coz I 'refashioned' kain pelikat abahnya yang dah koyak sikit.

Posted the result on fb .. and then ada orang mintak ajar. I am honoured but please be reminded I have no formal training untuk menjahit (except some basics kelas SRT masa sekolah menengah) and often, I used my gut- feeling. And of course trial and error. And I only sew for family members. Kalau terketat, terlonggar or whatever 'ter'.. opkos the complaints and grievances can be kept at minimum level. He he.

Anyway.

I am sharing with you all on how I measured and sewed PJ bottom Iman ni. Feel free to try tapi kalau tak menjadi seadanya... ampun sangat okay.

Mula-mula of course kena ambik measurement. Tips nya..
1. Masa measure jangan ukur ngam-ngam. (kecuali bahagian pinggang) Lebihkan ukuran ikut keselesaan.
2. Nak mudah, potong dulu kain empat segi ikut ukuran lebar a-g dan panjang i ke b.

Lepas measure, boleh lah buat pola. Saya tak buat pola kertas sebab saiz anak-anak cepat sangat berubah. Dan saya tak rajin nak ubahsuai pola kertas later on hehe. And then potong. Yang ni trickly sikit for beginners.

Jahit dulu bahagian cawat. Yang belah kiri tu bahagian punggung. Yang kanan tu belah depan (Rujuk Rajah 1) Lepas tu jahit kaki pulak (Rujuk Rajah 2).

Kelepet bahagian pinggang untuk masukkan getah. Saya biasanya jahit dulu bahagian pinggang, tinggalkan lubang kira-kira 2 inci. Kemudian masukkan getah kat lubang tu. Cantum getah. Dan lepas tu jahit lubang 2 inci tadi. Kelepet tu mesti muat getahnya ya.

Seterusnya jahit kelim kaki seluar pulak.

So part mana yang paling exciting? Yang first? Gantung seluar elok-elok, ambik gambar then share kat fb! Macam ni..

Cawat seluar saya buat labuh. Sebab si pemakainya suka duduk kangkang. This is what I meant tadi - pelikat refashioned hehe.

Selamat mencuba!

weekend sewing project - pj bottom

I bought 4 pieces of 2-meters fabric back in 2012 for Kakak's PJ bottom. The yellow kitty pj bottom was sewn right the next day while the other 3 had to wait yearsss before they finally see the sun again, and in wearable form :-)

 photo taken in 2012.
yang putih stripes and plain grey masih bertapa dalam laci

gunting Singer tu sedappp sangat buat menggunting kain. sila beli.

I made another 3 last weekend, of course in bigger size coz the little girl is now 14, standing almost as tall as me. But they weren't as loose as I want them be. I used the old pattern I made last year without adjusting a bit.

Here's grey-autumn, blue-leopard and pinky-stripes.

Thank you to cikgu-cikgu who taught me the basics of sewing during my secondary school, kelas SRT. Though later in life, I learnt how to 'menderhaka' ilmu SRT, I really appreciate jasa baik cikgu-cikgu. Coz to get things started, we all have to have the right basics.

And to my mother, Mok, who indirectly started the fire burning - my interest in needle and thread. I often witnesses she sewed clothes during her younger days. She wouldn't let me come near the scissors tho.

vroom-vroom 'sewn with love' single fitted bedsheet

Work's been good. Been busy but hey, not complaining (yet?). Kids are all well, I am good and Tebby's back! I made few small resolutions for 2013, mostly for self-improvement, insyaAllah. Among others - to revive back my hobby, sewing!

It's been awhile since I last sew anything! My last sewing project was in November 2012! Remember my yellow-kitty-sewn-with-love-pj-bottom project? In-between then and now, I sewed kelepet kaki seluar Iman and sewed-up badges and name tags onto their uniforms. But let's not call those sewing project, shall we? :D

Anyway, not withstanding my overdue 3-more-fabrics-to-be-swen-into-PJ-bottom, I ordered meters and meters of cotton for my fitted bedsheet projects. Tamak? Indeed I am! I mean who could resist such cute prints huh?

Bought these two types of print from D' Cotton Heaven. Both are cotton but I personally prefer the texture and feel of the scoot-scoot on black background. Vroom-vroom on yellow background is a little thin to the touch but still can do laaa.

Both fabrics are of bidang 44 inci. Means, I need to adjust the width by adding up 10 inches on left and 10 more inches on the right. It was a messy ordeal I tell you. Especially when it was my first time sewing fitted bedsheet! And when I was done cutting, I realized I did not have enough for pillow-cases!

Though I targeted to sew two sets (for the boys each), I only managed to complete only one set. Sabar ye Iman, next weekend I'll do it for you.

Fitted by sewing getah on 4 corners.Alhamdulillah, it turns out well and fits nicely. There's obviously still room for improvement.

Adam was very excited.
Tebby said nice.
More bedsheet perhaps?

yellow kitty 'sewn with love' PJ bottom

Project took off!

Same day beli kain, same day terus potong and jahit *flips hair, blows nail*

But first. Pola jahitan. I was doing a PJ bottom for Kakak.. (or rather I am still on 'PJ Bottom' projects as I still have to do 3 more). I bought Kakak those beautiful knee length baju tidur that do not come with matching seluar. Seen above is pola jahitan seluar tidur.

Derhaka ilmu SRT.  (people my age went to kelas Sains Rumah Tangga during our secondary schooling, depending on the school. FYI). SRT will (supposedly) impart you with proper knowledge and skills to be good at all these ilmu rumahtangga *ahem* As for this project, it is supposed to be drawn on proper white/brown paper (I used a used-envelop), properly marked with seams and notch where-ever and when-ever appropriate (I skipped this). Then to trace using tracing paper onto the fabric Also derhaka - skipped this step. I drew straight onto the fabric using Adam's pencil. SRT has this kapur kain. Kapur kain ni akan hilang kesannya pada kain lepas basuh.

During those days we have a kotak jahitan each. Inside - shears, jarum jahit, jarum peniti, pita ukur, tracing paper, kapur kain, tracing wheel, jidal, benang, lapik pinggang etc. Kelas SRT ada every week. Alternately between kelas jahitan and kelas masakan.Untuk kelas masakan, utensils disediakan so tak perlu ada kotak masakan with sudip senduk sudu garfu semua tu :D

singerrrr... menawan keluarga bahagia...

This project requires almost 100% straight line stitching. I was too malas to go out hantar jahit tepi kat kedai so I did double stitching. Can't remember what's the term. Kelim *something*. Supposedly kena pin kan and then jelujur dulu baru jahit. Jelujur ni jahitan tangan yang kasar-kasar. You must use benang kaler lain dari kain bila buat jelujur. I must admit it's not easy to master and comply to all these ilmu sains rumahtangga ha ha. Well, I skipped those :D Curve stitching at the crotch area only. When there's curve, kena snip to allow fabric to stretch nicely when diterbalikkan. As for jahit tepi, kalau tinggi semangat daya saing dan tinggi tahap ketabahan, buleh hand stitch juga *pingsan* Namanya ialah jahitan insang pari. Tak, I am not kidding.

A safety pin is a must in your kotak jahitan. Untuk kerja-kerja memasukkan getah kat pinggang seluar or kain. I saw my mom used this method. Kalau takde safety pin ni, dia guna sepit rambut kaler hitam tu. But sepit tends to tersangkut kat rumbai-rumbai kain nun, better guna safety pin. Anyway, SRT did not teach doing bahagian pinggang using getah, always guna pelapik yang keras tu. That, requires some calculation as to place correct measurement of lisu at the right place. Lisu ni pulak banyak kaum kerabatnya nya - lisu beriring, lisu bertentang, contohnya. Boleh jahit lisu mengadap ke dalam as well as ke luar. Selain dari nak hilangkan gelembung-gelembung, lisu pun buleh jadi hiasan tau. Too much eh? Bottomline, guna getah memang lagi senang. Anyway, ada ke PJ bottom guna zip dengan bahagian pinggang keras? Takde kan?

Done. Kakak in her home-made yellow kitty PJ bottom. Sewn with love *beams* Nampak cam senteng sebelah sebab dia terkepit seluar tu while trying to give the best pose.

While we were at it, Adam datang and insisted that I posing-posing kat mesin jahit tu. Layankan aje. So I gave him my best pose and Ummi senyum. 1,2,3....  Annndddddddd this is what came out..

project: sewing #1

Dah lama tak menjarum. Masa beli kain-kain ni Tebby buat muka kelat-kelat.

You nak buat apa?
Nak jahit la.
You nak jahit semua ni?

Okay. You just wait and see.
